HB 1178 Temporary Cert

HB 1178 requires SBEC to establish a temporary certificate for educators certified by other states, and to immediately issue one to a person who applies for an educator certificate from outside the state. It requires the State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) to establish and issue a temporary certificate to individuals who hold a valid, non-temporary teaching certificate from another state and a bachelor’s degree, and specifies that the temporary certificate will expire when the individual receives a Texas certificate or after one year.

HB 3372 Personal Services

HB 3372 prohibits certain activities for administrators (meaning anyone in the district who has significant administrative duties) regarding the operations of a school district, a campus, a program, or another subdivision of the district.

HB 4623 Sexual Misconduct

HB 4623 makes a public school liable for an act or omission that a professional school employee commits against a student enrolled in the school that is considered sexual misconduct, as defined by the bill. It not only makes schools liable for acts of sexual misconduct, but also for failure to report suspected child abuse or neglect by school employees.
